The Art of Perceiving God's Voice
Chapter One — Learning to Listen

Let me start by saying it is the most amazing thing to know that the God of Heaven and Earth wants to talk to me. I never want this to become normal. I constantly put myself in remembrance of this fact, and so should you. How could we not be in awe that the One who created the entire universe and holds together the very fabric of time and space wants to speak to us?
This understanding, when improperly placed, can actually create distance between you and God's voice. You begin to see God as so big that He becomes impersonal — so far away that He can't, or even worse, won't speak to you. Before we get started on this journey, we'll have to toss out any broken ways of thinking you've committed to in your heart. Often, what you learn first is what you learn best, and if you've developed bad theology or internal scripts about God's ability and desire to speak to you, then we can't effectively go any further without confronting these ideas head-on.
Hearing God is less about hearing a voice and more about perceiving His heart.
I tell people all the time that consistency is not found in loud, booming manifestations. Do these types of visitations happen? Absolutely — I have a few of my own. But is that how we should regularly expect to hear God's voice or know His heart? Absolutely not. You are His chosen temple, and as long as you focus only on a loud voice speaking from the outside, you will never overcome the mentality that God cannot or does not speak to you.
